There's a new product called Seaswarm Oil Spill Boats, by MIT and Senseable, who's first generation concept/prototype came out in 2010, but is now in the process of being field tested to potentially become readily available; sooner than later.
For example, the general idea is to clean up major oil spills like the Gulf Coast's "Deepwater Horizon" spill of 2010 and any other spills that prove to be detrimental to wildlife and the overall environment.

There's a "nano mesh" or "nano wire", material that covers the roller or "conveyor belt" of the ocean styled Swiffer, which gives it the capability to soak things up as it roams in the fleet; along the coastline.
Each of these "robots", can harvest up to 20x's it's weight for disposal and each one can also bring excess oil back to shore, to be used for many onland purposes.
