Today in Washington Square Park (Manhattan) we got an opportunity to participate in a showcase for World Toilet Day 2015. The demonstration was a part of the "The Global Poverty Project", which focuses on empowering people with little to no functional resources.
This movement was created by anti-poverty and anti-inequality organization “Global Citizen” and they were spreading awareness about "open defecation". Unicef is also a part of the project and taglines like "Give A Crap" and "I Give A Shit" were accompanied by the hashtag #WORLDTOILETDAY2015, on social media.
We sampled a simulated toilet to see how it feels to not have any shelter during a moment that should be private and we took a quiz that tested our knowledge about this problem which persists in poverty stricken areas of countries like India and Ghana.
Everyone should be able to experience using a clean and covered restroom no matter where they live. To learn more about Global Citizen and what they promote, visit www.globalcitizen.org
